Frank D. Byrne MD is president-emeritus of St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He served as president of St. Mary’s from 2004-2015, during which time St. Mary’s was named one of the 100 Top Hospitals (2006), one of the 50 Top Heart Hospitals (2014), achieved Magnet re-designation twice from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, implemented a HIMSS Stage 7 electronic health record, and completed a $184 million expansion. He previously served in a variety of clinical, administrative and governance leadership roles at Parkview Health, Fort Wayne, Indiana from 1982-2004.
Byrne has extensive governance experience, serving on the boards of two publicly-traded companies, not-for-profit hospitals and health systems, health plans, multi-specialty physician practices, physician-hospital joint ventures, foundations, and professional societies, including the Wisconsin Hospital Association, the Wisconsin Medical Society, and the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has served on the boards of numerous not-for-profit and community organizations, including the Madison Community Foundation, the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce, the Urban League of Greater Madison and Edgewood College.
He was named one of the 50 Most Influential Physician Executives by Modern Healthcare in 2011, inducted into the InBusiness Magazine Business Hall of Fame in 2012, designated a Champion of Women’s Health by the Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation in 2012, and received the InBusiness Executive of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
