A longtime champion of public higher education, Dr. James Schmidt has served as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire since July 2013. Under his leadership, UW-Eau Claire is continuing to build its reputation as a public regional university that provides its students and graduates with a college experience that offers both quality AND value. He works closely with faculty, staff, alumni and student leaders to support their innovative ideas that often result in enriched curriculum, state-of-the-art classrooms and labs, and high-impact experiences that take students into communities in the Chippewa Valley and around the world. A leader who appreciates the power and value of building partnerships, Chancellor Schmidt embraces opportunities to connect with community and business leaders, as well as legislators and others to find new ways to collaborate so together they can meet workforce and community needs in the region, state, and beyond.
