This exhibition was organized by the Wisconsin Academy’s James Watrous Gallery and the printmaking area of the University of Wisconsin–Madison. From April 5 through April 9 the UW–Madison’s printmaking department is hosting this year’s conference of the Southern Graphics Council, the major print organization in this country. The conference, called “Genetic ImPrint,” is an amalgam of exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations, and panel discussions exploring issues that involve biotechnology as seen through the eyes of the artist. This exhibition connects ideas grounded in the sciences as well as in the visual arts. Here we see technology influencing art in its material production, with traditional methods of printmaking being altered and augmented in this digital age.
