Sean Avery: Fiction & Poetry winners' live reading series

Thursday, June 11, 2020 - 10:00am to 10:30am

In a pre-recorded presentation, poet Sean Avery shares a reading of their work, including the powerful poem, “Prayer (Song) for Magic,” which won second place in the 2015 Wisconsin People & Ideas Poetry Contest.

Sean is a rapper, poet and teaching artist based in Arizona. Their work integrates rap, poetry, and theater to explore how Black masculinity is projected onto their body. They strive for an authentic performance of self, in hopes that they’ll inspire others to examine their own identities. Their album and play skinnyblk, and all of their work, can be found at superseanavery.com.

This Facebook Live reading series is part of the 150th anniversary celebration of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters and our Wisconsin People & Ideas magazine.
