Pursuit of Happiness
After being prompted by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to study compassion and positivity in the same way that depression, anxiety, and fear are studied, neuroscientist Richard Davidson shifted his research to the brain’s ability to cultivate well-being. With the scientific means to examine brain circuits that exhibit plasticity in areas of resilience, positive outlook, mindfulness and compassion, it has been substantiated that we can shape and modify our minds for a happier life.
As part of the Wisconsin Academy’s American Dream Series, Davidson will engage in a dialogue exploring the scientific foundation for the pursuit of happiness. Considering the brain’s capacity for change, connection to the body, genetic regulation, and innate tendency toward basic goodness, Davidson will share how a conscious pursuit of mental well-being can help facilitate the American dream.
