David Blockstein is a Senior Scientist with the National Council for Science and the Environment in Washington DC. Blockstein’s scholarly interest in passenger pigeons began when he was conducting his dissertation research at the University of Minnesota on reproductive ecology and parental investment in mourning doves. He authored the Birds of North America species account on the passenger pigeon and has also conducted research on ecology and conservation of tropical pigeons and doves in Grenada and Western Samoa. He is the founding chair of the Ornithological Council and a Fellow of the American Ornithologists’ Union. Blockstein has been involved in the Passenger Pigeon Project from the beginning and is a member of the steering committee.
