From Poe’s introduction of C. Auguste Dupin to Rian Johnson’s Benoit Blanc in the blockbuster film “Knives Out”, mysteries have been one of the most popular and enduring genres in fiction. Explore the world of mystery writing in all its forms–from suspense, to cozy, to noir–and learn the tricks of the trade to write your own mysteries. Instructor Shaun Harris will walk you through the rules and teach you how and when to break them. Learn how to create dynamic characters and intricate plots in a course that is part lecture series and part writing workshop as you write and share your own stories. Each part of the process––from coming up with new ideas to research methods––will be covered and by the end of the course you will be well on your way to creating your own Holmes or, if you choose, your own Moriarty.
