Join instructor Vesile Yilmaz for a comprehensive learning experience on the ancient art of Turkish paper marbling, Ebru. During this course, students will have hands-on experience with special tools of the trade such natural earth pigments, ox-gall, and carrageenan to produce their one-of-a-kind marbled designs. Throughout the course, students will learn the technique and preparation of the dyes and bath as well as the history and tradition. Diving deep into the mystical philosophy that underlies Ebru, students will learn how this therapeutic form of art has made its way to Intangible Cultural World Heritage list by UNESCO. Every week students will focus on two traditional designs (i.e. stones, gel-git, hatip, Spanish wave, nightingale's nest, bouquet, combed, non-pareil) and there will be time for freestyle experimentation and exploration as the sky is limit with this aqueous surface design method. Ebru paper is commonly used for bookbinding and calligraphy or it can be incorporated into collage, scrapbooking, art journaling or can be framed as artwork. All tools and supplies for the 8-week course are included in a kit the instructor will mail to participants the week before the course.
