Join experts and artists at the table for brunch and conversation inside the James Watrous Gallery. Second in a series of intimate, ticketed events that bring the culinary and visual arts together, Art Bites: Gaylord Schanilec offers an exclusive opportunity to interact with experts in the art of the book. Join exhibiting artist Gaylord Schanilec, type designer Russell Maret, rare book dealer Robert Rulon-Milller, special collections librarians Max Yela and Lyn Korenic, and gallery director, Jody Clowes to discuss A Natural History while enjoying a tasty brunch.

Jody Clowes is the director of the Wisconsin Academy's James Watrous Gallery. With years of experience developing and curating exhibitions, running gallery programs, and writing about art, her background includes senior positions at Milwaukee Art Museum, Detroit's Pewabic Pottery, and the UW-Madison's Design Gallery.

Lyn Korenic is the director of the Kohler Art Library at the UW-Madison. In support of its notable Artist’s Book Collection, she curates exhibitions, acquires new material, and provides instruction to campus and community users. In 2014, Gaylord Schanilec gave the 2nd Annual Bernstein Books Arts Lecture, hosted by the library.

Best known for his color wood engravings, Gaylord Schanilec has set the standard for contemporary artist’s books over the last forty years. His widely collected and unique fine press books explore his interests and experiences as well as his hometown landscape and community.

Max Yela has been Head of the Special Collections Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Libraries since 1994. Prior to this, he was the public services librarian for Special Collections at the University of Delaware, 1985-1994.
