One of the signs of good mental health is the ability to tolerate ambiguity.

Over the past few months our lives have taken a dramatic turn as vague concerns about the novel coronavirus shifted to the realization that we were facing a full-blown global pandemic.

Imagine what it was like on that February afternoon in 1870, when hundreds of people crowded into Wisconsin’s State Agricultural Hall for the convention to organize the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters.

We all live in a floodplain. Some of us just have more apparent risks than others, but we’re all vulnerable.

Talking to others about climate change, and listening to what scientists are saying, will help us understand how to be good ancestors.

I was born into a family where the value of education was never questioned.

Midwesterners are obsessed with checking the weather. Most of us, though, aren’t looking at our mobile devices to see what tomorrow’s soil conditions will be.

When does the pursuit of scientific inquiry become an act of advocacy?
