Panel Discussion Only - The Art of Teaching: Inspiring the Next Generation of Scientists

For today’s high school and college students, human beings have always been living — not just traveling — in outer space. The United States has always been in Afghanistan. Same-sex marriage has always been legal somewhere and the once revolutionary “You’ve got mail” is almost forgotten. Born in the 21st century, they have always been able to refer to Wikipedia, more often use thumbprints to log in securely, and consider Facebook old school. They have delayed traditional milestones such as learning to drive and often work while attending college.  These circumstances, among others, have created a generation of students who learn differently than those of the past.

Furthermore, current high school and college students will face many significant, global-scale change within their lifetime. They represent more than just the next generation of science, as these students will define our collective future. Within this context, book learning seems wholly inadequate. So, how are today’s educators innovating to meet the needs of today’s students?

The Wisconsin Academy invites you to explore the possibilities with a panel of Wisconsin educators who are making great strides in advancing science education in our state.  A free reception will precede the discussion in the James Watrous Gallery at 7pm.
