Andy Kraushaar has held the position of Visual Materials Curator at the Wisconsin Historical Society since 2001. Prior to this he worked as a freelance photographer before entering library school and receiving a library degree with an emphasis in archives administration. Following brief internships at the Library of Congress, Print and Photographs Division, and the Smithsonian Institution Archives, he returned to Wisconsin in 1988 to accept the position of manuscript processing archivist at the Wisconsin Historical Society.
Upon accepting his present position, one of Kraushaar's first initiatives was building a digital lab and beginning to offer web access to the Society's large visual material collections. With the introduction of digital access to the collections, a large part of the daily work of this position has shifted to public outreach and making the collections more widely available to a growing online audience. A significant portion of the job also entails providing reference service as well as continuing to build the collections.
