As Community Agroforester for Savanna Institute, Barbara Decré works with the Adoption Team to share knowledge about agroforestry practices and develop strong relationships with farmers in southwest Wisconsin and northern Illinois. She also works closely with the Communication Team to develop training material and agroforestry resources geared towards farmers and the Technical Service Providers that work with them. Originally from France, Barbara has an agronomy masters degree from Montpellier SupAgro and a PhD from UW-Madison where she was particularly interested in studying the social aspects of agroforestry. Drawn to agroforestry practices for their intuitive nature and the potential they offer to address some of today’s biggest challenges, Barbara values approaches grounded in farmers’ knowledge and seeks to strengthen the bonds of the growing agroforestry community. In her free time, Barbara loves to bake French treats, to paint using watercolors, or knit sweaters in anticipation for the Wisconsin winter.
