
John Greenler is the Academy's director of Environmental Initiatives. His experience related to the environment, climate and energy is extensive and multidimensional. For ten years John was the Director of Outreach at the Wisconsin Energy Institute (WEI) of UW-Madison and the U.S. DOE-funded Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC). In addition to his work with WEI and GLBRC, John has served as faculty in the Biology Department at Beloit College, and Engagement Director for the UW-Madison Energy Analysis and Policy Program. He earned his PhD in plant biology from UW-Madison and has taught in multiple capacities, including undergraduate courses, study abroad in East Africa, and professional development for educators. He also enjoys farming, photography, prairie restoration, running and cross-country skiing.
