Sharon Reilly

  • CFF 2022

Sharon Reilly is currently the Director of Planning & Development at the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council (GLITC), a Tribal Consortium and Non-profit organization located in Lac du Flambeau. Sharon’s successful career as a conservation planner and manager, environmental educator, and wildlife biologist has taken her around the globe to develop effective and innovative conservation policies and practices to protect and restore habitat; conserve threatened and endangered species; build sustainable conservation partnerships representing diverse groups including NGO’s, Indigenous communities, public agencies, private foundations, IHE’s, private landowners including farmers and ranchers, businesses and energy companies. From her diverse experience, Sharon has developed a leadership style which delivers effective planning around complex conservation and social issues through a community participatory approach that promotes the free exchange of ideas; challenges everyone to be objective participants open to new ideas; supports development of multi-sector multi-cultural collaborations and partnerships. Through first-hand experience, she values Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) which includes many teachings and practices that demonstrate how humans can also have a beneficial impact on ecosystems. Sharon is also an artist and art instructor teaching watercolor painting as a meditative and creative process. Another passion is nature photography because she finds beauty everywhere - in a flower, bird’s feather, dragonfly’s wing, or snowflake; in an ocean, lake, or river scene; in the clouds above us or on the forest floor. Sharon passionately believes the man-made challenges facing human society can be repaired. Like nature, we have an inherent power to heal ourselves, if we so choose.
