A lifelong resident of the Grand Portage Anishinaabe Nation, Travis is a self-taught photographer whose work is grounded in his ancestral homelands along the Lake Superior North Shore. With more than three decades of experience, his photography centers on nature, wildlife, and especially the night sky as a space of cultural memory, reflection, and responsibility.
Travis was co-producer and narrator of Northern Nights, Starry Skies, an award-winning film celebrating dark sky places, Indigenous star knowledge, and stewardship of the night sky. He is also the photographer for the book Spirits Dancing: The Night Sky, Indigenous Knowledge & Cultural Connections to the Cosmos, which explores the practice of star bathing and humanity’s enduring relationship with the cosmos.
