Editors Note
The fever started during lunch at a friend’s cabin on the Wisconsin River this spring. Over sandwiches and homemade potato salad, my friend offered us an open-ended invitation to stay for a week at the cabin during the summer.
At first glance the title of my editorial in this issue might seem to be satirical.
You might have noticed something a little different when you picked up this issue of Wisconsin People & Ideas. It's true: we've had a makeover.
The "buy local" movement is an international trend that is gaining strength across the country.
By the time you read this sentence it will be close to, if not, the beginning of a new year. Glasses will be raised, resolutions will be made, and calendars will be tossed in the trash.
I recently received a telephone call from a longtime friend who lives in Boston.
As my wife and I frantically attempted to stanch the flow of water that spread over our laundry room with towels and a wheezing Shop Vac, that old, familiar phrase about "the joys of home ownership" echoed in my head.
