Margaret Lewis was the executive director of the Wisconsin Academy from 2007 to 2011. For twelve years she served as Assistant, Associate and Acting Vice-President of University Relations for the University of Wisconsin System. Prior to that, Margaret was elected to three terms in the Wisconsin state legislature, serving on committees ranging from education, to health and family services to tax issues. Margaret also worked for four years on the staff of former Governor Lee Dreyfus, participated as a weekly commentator on Wisconsin Public Television's "Weekend" news political panel, worked for a public affairs/public relations firm, had her own political consulting business, and lobbied for the Wisconsin Conference of Churches.
