Gerit Grimm: Eternally Rolls the Wheel of Being

Sculptor Gerit Grimm mines a remarkable range of sources for her sculpture. In this short video, she talks about the inspiration behind the pieces in her 2017 James Watous Gallery show, from Greek myth and the story of Jesus to Italian Renaissance painting and ceramics, the work of Friedrich Nietzche, and the death of her father.

Gerit Grimm was born and grew up in Halle, German Democratic Republic. In 1995 she finished her apprenticeship as a potter, learning the traditional German trade at the “Altbürgeler blau-weiss GmbH” in Bürgel, and then worked as a Journeyman for Joachim Jung in Glashagen.
