We will re-open at Overture Center for the Arts on September 10, 2021. Visit our current exhibition page to learn more.
The James Watrous Gallery is dedicated to celebrating Wisconsin artists. Located on the third floor of Overture Center for the Arts in downtown Madison, the Watrous Gallery shows art from around the state and investigates ideas at the intersection of the sciences, arts, and letters.
We present solo exhibits featuring a significant body of artwork by a single artist, and curated shows that reflect the Wisconsin Academy's interest in drawing connections between art and other disciplines. Many of our exhibits and related events connect with themes explored through Wisconsin Academy Talks and Initiatives, as well as in the pages of Wisconsin People & Ideas.
The James Watrous Gallery receives ongoing support from the Great Performance Fund at the Madison Community Foundation and the membership of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters. Programming is supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board, with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts.
OUR NEXT CALL FOR ARTISTS HAS NOT BEEN SCHEDULED.
The James Watrous Gallery's exhibition calendar is filled for the next several years. Because the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to reschedule most of the exhibitions scheduled for 2020 and 2021, our next call for artists will not be open for some time. If you have questions about eligibility for the call, please contact gallery director Jody Clowes. Thank you for your interest!
