Katie Musolff lives and works on the backwaters of the Mississippi River in Vernon County, Wisconsin. "I grew up outside of Milwaukee and graduated with a BFA in painting from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 2004. After making a living in the city for a while, I met a man, fell in love and followed him to my current home. Here I discovered a richly layered natural world teeming with specimens to collect and stories to tell. Making this work is like being a kid again: going outside to find what little adventures lie beyond the back door and coming home to the studio, jacket pockets packed with treasures. Once home, I sift through my findings and paint them in watercolor and gouache, always from direct observation so as to preserve the sense of wonder that drew me to them in the first place."
"I've been making a living from my art for 13 years now. I do not take it for granted that I continue to be rewarded for exploring my personal interests and articulating my point of view by doing what comes naturally to me; not that it always comes so easily, mind you, but I can hardly imagine doing anything else."
