Local Government Summit 2018

April 23-24, 2018, in the W.R. Davies Student Center at UW-Eau Claire

In our third annual Local Government Summit, the Wisconsin Academy and partners will convene a two-day summit to share practical resources and explore emerging issues in local energy planning and resilience in Wisconsin communities. Local leaders and representatives from organizations actively serving as resources to these communities (research teams, non-profits, university programs) – all of whom are engaged in advancing clean energy, climate mitigation, and resilience at the local level – are invited to attend one or both days of the summit.

  • Day 1 (April 23) will focus on half-day, interactive, breakout workshops. Experts will lead practical workshops covering topics in transportation, community resilience, workforce development, and energy efficiency. In particular, these conversations will benefit facilities managers, sustainability officers, energy managers, city planners, public works directors, sustainability committee members, and other practitioners working hands-on on energy issues in – or in support of – local government. If your organization would like to get coverage for all of the breakout sessions, we recommend registering two staff people. All attendees will receive access to presentations from all sessions, regardless of those attended. Everyone registered for the summit (for either day or the full two-day event) is invited and encouraged to attend the evening reception on April 23.
  • Day 2 (April 24) will emphasize plenary sessions, featuring expert panels and speakers exploring high-level energy issues in Wisconsin. Topics will include local leadership and planning on clean energy and resilience, solar energy financing, and advanced energy systems of the (not too distant) future. These big-picture sessions will benefit local elected officials, such as mayors, common council members, county supervisors, town and village board members, school board members, as well as others interested in learning more about these emerging energy issues in Wisconsin.
