Catherine Young

Catherine Young is a writer and performing artist whose work is infused with a keen sense of place. Trained in Environmental Science and Geography, Young has worked as a national park ranger, farmer, mother, and educator before completing her MFA in creative writing at UBC Vancouver. Her writing has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best American Essays, and her memoir about growing up in coal country, Black Diamonds, Blue Flames was longlisted in the Graywolf Nonfiction Prize. Her ecopoetry and prose is published in journals nationally and internationally and in the anthology The Driftless Reader. Rooted in farm life, Young lives with her family in Wisconsin’s Driftless Area.
