
Self-taught artist Romano Johnson was born and raised on the north side of Chicago, and now lives and works in Madison. He started a small business centered on his original paintings and products in 2011. Johnson always arrives at exhibitions and receptions in brightly painted clothing and loves to hold court with his fans and collectors. He has exhibited in galleries and institutions throughout Wisconsin and elsewhere, including Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Wisconsin Art (West Bend), the John Michael Kohler Art Center (Sheboygan), the Trout Museum of Art (Appleton), and he has also exhibited work in Freiburg, Germany. Johnson is represented in Milwaukee by Portrait Society Gallery, which has featured his work in the New York Outsider Art Fair. He is represented in south-central Wisconsin by ArtWorking in Madison, where he also maintains a studio.
