Join Tom Antell, Romano Johnson, and Wisconsin Academy staff to celebrate the opening of the exhibitions Democratic Vistas and Gospel Love Heart at the James Watrous Gallery. These exhibitions will be on view from May 1 through July 12, 2026.

Remarks begin at 3:30 pm. Free and open to the public. Light refreshments served.

Contributors

Tom Antell was born in 1954 in Minnesota. He is an enrolled member of the White Earth Minnesota Chippewa (Ojibwe) Tribe. He graduated from Cal Arts with a B.F.A in 1976, and in 2005 in received an M.A. in Studio Arts from the University of Wisconsin – Superior.

Self-taught artist Romano Johnson was born and raised on the north side of Chicago, and now lives and works in Madison. He started a small business centered on his original paintings and products in 2011. Johnson always arrives at exhibitions and receptions in brightly painted clothing and loves to hold court with his fans and collectors.
