Tom Antell was born in 1954 in Minnesota. He is an enrolled member of the White Earth Minnesota Chippewa (Ojibwe) Tribe. He graduated from Cal Arts with a B.F.A in 1976, and in 2005 in received an M.A. in Studio Arts from the University of Wisconsin – Superior. His paintings have been exhibited at the Museum of Wisconsin Art, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Sheldon Gallery in St. Louis. He has two paintings in the permanent collection of the Museum of Wisconsin Art.
