Maureen Fritchen’s exhibition showcases the impact of consumerism on our environment. Fritchen uses industrial waste materials as her principal medium in artmaking, focusing on repurposing polyethylene foam used in packaging, which is not biodegradable. These waste materials threaten our environment, yet the biomorphic shapes and forms Fritchen creates are beautiful and sensual. They are at once alluring and disturbing, in colors of pink and blue. The materials often dictate the end result in important and surprising ways, Fritchen says, allowing her to engage in playful creation without the fear of failure.
